The sheriff went through a lot of changes before I arrived at the final design. I wanted to make his hair long, because that gave him an air of grace and wisdom (?)

But deep in my soul, I was conflicted, because someone from the police logically couldn't have long hair.

I tried to think of ways that elves could push to preserve their cultural heritage while in the force. Perhaps if they could prove keeping it tied back wouldn't represent a risk during combat.

He's a half-elf, maybe he could get an exemption.

But it was a huge hassle explaining all that in an organic way, since it had zero to do with the story.

I ended up cutting his hair off and turning him into a more rebel version of himself.
